Shopping Snapshots – February 20th 2011

My weekly shop yesterday involved a bit of a wild card – Mother in Law coming to dinner. This meant that my usual hasty lazy thrown-together stir fry of a Sunday evening would have to be replaced by a proper meal. Involving effort. No problem, I thought, tearing through my mental list of possible dishes like an apoplectic filofax. Roast chicken? Done. Roast Beef? Too much faffing. Roast Lamb? Too expensive. It was going to have to be pork. That takes care of Sunday.

My lunchbox filler was to be turkey and spinach lasagne, at the personal request of the OH. And the evening meal was going to be fish with veg. Cod for Himself, salmon for me. Sew-ted, as they say. The whole cost amounted just over €70, which is a little more steep than usual, but this is probably because of the Sunday meal and the expensive nature of fish for the evening’s suppers. To be fair, all this gave us dinner for three on Sunday, then breakfast every morning, a hot lunch each day and dinner every evening for two, for a week. Plus two bottles of the all-important plonk. Will work on being more frugal next week!
