Lidl Special Offers until 19th June

Right so, from today until Wednesday, top Lidl offerings include 16 Denny Saussies for €2, 4 Lamb Loin Chops for €4, and yummy Smoked Black Forest Black Ham for €1.89 (this stuff is amazing in dishes involving chipotle chillies, the smokiness of the chilli and ham go together beautifully).  Ooh, also Mature Blue Stilton is just €2 for 200g, if you’re like me and have a penchant for all things dairy and calorific.

For the whole week there’s a heap of ‘double deals’, or ‘twofors’ as I like to call them.  For example, 2 Lloyd Grossman pasta / Thai curry sauces for €3, 2 Hellmann’s Dressings for €2 (including a fat free version!), and 2 6 packs of Lucozade bottles (original) for €7 for all you old-school addicts.

Among the meat offerings this week there is a €9.99 per kilo Leg ofLamb, €3.49 for 250g of Rainbow Trout Fillets, €1.99 for 340g Pork Loin Steaks (Saturday only), and €1 Irish pork sausages, 69c white / black pudding and €2 smoked/unsmoked rashers (Thursday – Sunday only). Ooh, and cooked muscles for €1.69 if you can’t be bothered with the ‘tap, tap, are you alive?’ malarkey of the fresh ones.

Also up on Thursday-Sunday offers are 39c loose red peppers which I WISH I’d known before I cooked this on Saturday with full price peppers….grrrrrr….and also 2 for €3.50 Tropicana 1 litres, although I still don’t get why people continue to pay full price for the label when Aldi do fantastic not-from-concentrate versions for literally half the price.

The Saturday specials include the above-mentioned pork loin, but also €9.99 Rachmaninoff vodka (has anybody hangover-tested this stuff?), 2 for €3 coke /diet coke and 2 for €4 4 roll kitchen towel. Yep, random as ever.

Now for the country special that beats the pants off all the other nationalities’ weeks.   Italian week.  There are lots and lots of Italian offerings, but some of the most appealing include; Limoncino (€8.99),  Salami / Prosciutto slices (€2.29-€2.99), various tomato sauces (€1.19 – €1.49), Deluxe stone-baked pizzas (€3.99), all the pastas in the world (sadly, no brown or wholewheat, but there is gluten free fusilli for €1.79), Risotto Carnaroli (€1.99), breadsticks galore (€1.29-€1.79) and packaged Bruschetta, which is marketed as ‘a healthy alternative to pizza’ for some reason and demands further investigation of the packet instore (€1.99).  Of course there are BUCKETS of wine and beer, ranging from a Ciro Classico Superiore Riserva DOC (rated 90 and for €7.99), to Moretti Premium Lager (4 for €5.99).

Buon Appetito!
